Ring-billed Gulls

Fewer than you think

About

Dr. Chip Weseloh is a wildlife biologist and an expert in waterbird colonies.  His 5o years of research focuses on "indicators species" (those at the top of the food chain) as a means of studying the health of the Great Lakes. Bird surveys are critical to understanding the state of the environment. I joined his team as they collected data on bird, nest. and egg counts.
So how does one count 7,540 gulls, 3,770 nests and  11,320 eggs?
Well, it takes a bit of time...
